Welcome to the Tanzania Culture Trust Fund (Mfuko) Website.

Mfuko is a not – for – profit making organization established in September 1998 through a trust Deed to promote, develop and strengthen the culture sector in the country.

Its establishment followed expression of concerns by cultural actors and practitioners of the absence of an organization that would empower them so that their activities not only effectively preserve the culture of Tanzania but, but also provide gainful employment and contribute more to the country’s economic development.

Mfuko operates within the framework of the culture policy of Tanzania and its activities complement the Government efforts in the field of culture. It is for this reason that in its day-to-day activities, mfuko works very closely with the Ministry of Information, Culture and Sports.

Mfuko is working through six cultural constituencies namely Cultural Heritage, Films and Audio visual, Cultural Industry, Performing Arts, Language and Literature and Fine Arts and crafts,
discharge its responsibilities by firstly, providing funding to cultural actors so as to initiate, develop and improve their marketability.

Secondly, mfuko awards excellence in the cultural activities. This is intended to enhance the quality of products and improve their marketability.

Thirdly, Mfuko promotes networks that bring together parties interested in culture development in Tanzania. This builds and improves awareness in the cultural activities.

Despite of commendable achievements that have been registered by Mfuko since inception, Mfuko would like to improve its out – reach and coverage of cultural activities through improvement and establishment of intra national and international networks with national, regional and international institutions engaged in the promotion and strengthening of the culture sector.

In so doing Mfuko, will be fostering international socio – economic co - operation and development.
